Conditions of Cluster Transfers
If you are unable to attach a copy of the student's birth certificate, please scan and e-mail it to studentassignment@apsk12.org or send a copy to Student Assignment and Records via school mail.
Students of Employees Cluster Transfers- Children of full-time APS or partner school-based employees as well as bus operators (FT drivers and monitors) may attend a school in the vertical feeder pattern at which the parent or legal guardian is employed, provided that the school has sufficient capacity.
1. Sufficient capacity is defined as any school below 95% of the facility’s planning capacity based upon the anticipated future enrollment. In the event that there is more employee’s child interest in a transfer than school capacity allows, the Office of Student Assignment will administer a lottery.
2. Eligible employees must apply during the published time frame to allow the district to reasonably account for individual school planning requirements.
3. Children of employees hired after the published time frame will be eligible but must complete the appropriate application with the Office of Student Assignment within 30 days of hire.
4. This provision includes employees of APS conversion-charter schools.
5. Transfers are valid through the highest grade level of the school unless the employee worksite changes or the employee separates from his/her employment with APS.
6. If an employee has a change in work site assignment outside of the cluster, the employee may request a change in schools for his/her child at the time the job assignment changes. The student will be treated in the same manner as a student who moves within the school year (see regulation JBC-R(2) School Admissions – Students Who Move During the School Year). The employee may request a school choice transfer to remain at the current school. The request may be granted if space is available. If the school is at or exceeding capacity, the student may complete the semester. The parent may request a transfer to the new
worksite/cluster (if applicable), a school choice transfer to another school with space available, or the student may enroll in the zoned school.
7. If the eligible non-resident employee resigns, retires or is terminated, the student will no longer be considered a resident for enrollment purposes and will be treated in the same manner as a student who moves within the school year (see regulation JBC-R(2) School Admissions – Students Who Move During the School Year). Tuition requirements will apply if the non-resident student remains in the school after the parent/guardian’s employment ends.
8. Parents who apply for a student transfer should carefully consider their student's eligibility in extracurricular activities/sports pursuant to the rules of the individual programs and Georgia High School Association constitution (GHSA) available at www.ghsa.net to maintain eligibility. By requesting this transfer, I attest that I have reviewed and understand the impact to my student's eligibility.
