Conditions of Worksite Transfers
If you are unable to attach a copy of the student's birth certificate, please scan and e-mail it to studentassignment@apsk12.org or send a copy to Student Assignment and Records via school mail.
All full-time school-based employees of Atlanta Public Schools, except temporary and substitute employees, who are also a custodial parent/legal guardian with whom the child lives may elect to have their student(s) attend their worksite if appropriate, and subject to the following conditions:
- The employee must complete a worksite transfer request for each child.
- The employee must submit a copy of their APS employee badge.
Human Resources will verify upon submission of the application that the employee is:
- Not a temporary or substitute employee; and
- Employed in the position indicated.
- Current, new, and transferred employees should complete a “Worksite Transfer Application” prior to enrollment of the child(ren) in APS.
- If a non-resident employee resigns, retires, or is terminated, the student will no longer be considered a resident for enrollment purposes. The student may remain in the current school through the end of the semester with the payment of non-resident tuition.
- If a resident employee resigns, retires, or is terminated, the employee is no longer eligible for the worksite transfer. The student will be treated in the same manner as a student who moves within the school year and may complete the current semester in which the parent is transferred. The employee may request a general administrative transfer to remain at the current school. The request may be granted if space is available. If the school is at or exceeding capacity, the student may complete the semester. The parent may request a transfer to the new worksite (if applicable) or a general administrative transfer to another school with space available.
- An employee's student(s) may withdraw and enroll at any time in his/her zoned school.
- If an employee is transferred to another school within the District, the student will be treated in the same manner as a student who moves within the school year and may complete the current semester in which the parent is transferred. The employee may request a general administrative transfer to remain at the current school. The request may be granted if space is available. If the school is at or exceeding capacity, the student may complete the semester. The parent may request a transfer to the new worksite (if applicable) or a general administrative transfer to another school with space available.
- Transportation is the responsibility of the parent.
- Parents who apply for a student transfer should carefully consider their student's eligibility in extracurricular activities/sports pursuant to the rules of the individual programs and Georgia High School Association constitution (GHSA) available at www.ghsa.net to maintain eligibility. By requesting this transfer, I attest that I have reviewed and understand the impact to my student's eligibility.
- If an eligible employee is granted a leave of absence, the student may remain at the school until the end of the approved leave.
- Special Education/504 Services: A student with disabilities who applies will need to have his or her individualized educational program (IEP) or Section 504 plan evaluated prior to enrollment to determine whether those services required under the IEP or 504 plans are available at the school. The availability of exceptional student education services offered may be a limiting factor.
- The parent/guardian is expected to maintain a cordial and cooperative working relationship with school personnel. Failure to comply with these provisions may result in the withdrawal of the student(s). The transfer may be revoked if:
- The student has accumulated any combination of 10 or more unexcused absences from school or class, tardies to school or class, early dismissals from school or class, or late pickups from school; and/or
- The student has a combined total of four in-school suspensions, suspensions of one to three days (1-3), or two or more out-of-school suspensions of 3 days or more for any reason;
- Assignment to alternative or expulsion.
